Marina

We camped at Bath Marina Camp site following a very pretty drive along the A368 with views overlooking the Blagdon & Chew Valley Lakes.

The Camp site was within 10 minute walk of the Park and Ride, so access to the city centre on Saturday was very easy.

Unknown to us, it was also the celebration of Jane Austen weekend, where fans from all over the world came and dressed in period costume. It gave the City an excitement that was unique.

Soldiers

They formed up to promenade around the square, starting and finishing at The Pump Rooms, before dispersing around the city in groups to visit the Crescent, The Austen Museum, and the Baths, before partaking of afternoon tea at The Pump Rooms.
We had a great time following them around. They must have been freezing in their flimsy frocks as it was bitterly cold with heavy showers.

Mussels

On our return to Bath Marina we stopped off at The Bargemans’ Rest for dinner.
Mel had Mussels for starters, while I had Soup. Main course we decided on Pork Chop with Cider jus, and black pudding mash. It was gorgeous. We shared a cheese board for dessert.

Soup
It was much quieter on Sunday when we got the normal bus into the city. Once in the centre we caught the City tour bus to see all the sights, hopping on and off at will.
Weir Gardens Baths
Once we had completed the “City Tour” we took an open top bus on a tour of Bath’s Sky line. The tour before us had gone through a cloud burst, and as the bus went down hill we had a 6” deep rush of water to our feet. (We were in the front row under a little cover, so we were OK if it rained again!) So we sat most of the journey with our feet on a ledge! The guide was very informative and had a very good sense of humour, telling us tales and pointing out landmarks.
River Kingfisher Bathampton

To finish the day we then went on a river boat from the weir up to Bathampton and the toll bridge.
